Young Leaders Day!
Tuesday, 4 November 2008
Cool. Hey people! Just came back from Ngee Ann Polytechnic Young Leaders Day seminar. This seminar is rather better than camp to me suddenly, I gained more in this 6 hours seminar, rather than having any camps for 3D2N.
To begin with, let me recall my whole day.
Have AMaths Headstart for 50 mins, wow, I am early for the first time, the last few headstarts are all just on the dot arrived.
We learn the what dividend= divisor X quotient + remainder.
Well, lucky I attended for a while, or tomorrow I am going to suffer.
Boarded the bus and found out there no bus to take us back from NP........ (too late?)
The leaders were all given a warm welcome by the emcee who entertained us the whole day, they are unique, in a sense that, they introduce who they were! To me, I think they have leadership in them, and to become successful people like them, they have gone through few times harder that we are going through now.
The male emcee has a company that is now working closely with coca-cola and sony company, while the female emcee came from a poor south america country, she's doing well now.
They allow me to feel that I am fortunate, though I looked that despair, pathetic.
1st speaker, he is named Martin. He claimed to be 18 (in fact 31), at the start of his slides, he made us to put both of our palms together. I remember he said that, those with left thumb over right thumb, is good in choosing colours, while those right over left are good in Maths and Science. He urged the latter one not to choose any clothes for people, especially for uniforms. So if next time, when a uniform seems to be weird, everyone should know what type of people chose already?
Female: Left thumb over right thumb, you will be dominated by your husband.
Right thumb over left thumb, you will be dominated by your mother-in-law.
I think that's true.
He also told us about the fold your hands part, it did not affect me so much, so I did not pay much attention.
R.I.P = Rise if possible. This phrase is inspiring, and made us to laugh so much.
I remember got once he asked us to add up the following, base on my memory
1000 + 10 + 1000+ 10 + 1000 + 30 + 10 + 100 + 40?
Sorry, if I am not wrong that should be it.
The correct answer is 4100, but some of them gave 5000.
He claimed that is how we look at things!!
In his life story, he say there's once he's salary-less for almost a year. Whatever he earn, he gave back. That earned our respect, the selfless spirit of him.
2nd speaker. Alright, this is his first time speaking to a large crowd. He did educated us some qualities, however, you have to pay attention throughout, as is like (see next line)
educate nature ------> qualities --> educate nature ------> educate nature------> qualities
You have to catch what he say about qualities, for that only last for 2 mins++.
Now I understand how pathetic our earth is, the environment, is damaged, and we have to save the environment. To impact something that seems impossible like recycling, is a exciting, challenging task.
3rd speaker. This man is great, from a poor family in England, he rose up and became a promoter manager for CounterStrike. The 8th richest in England. He told us he was glad to be in poverty in England, instead of philipines. He's a volunteer for building houses in philipines for the poor to live, and he eventually stayed there I think? He explain to us that the price of his BMW is equivalent to 80 houses in philipines. --Below is a story of few filipino kids he met in philipines--
He's having his meal with his friend, where outside sits few poor kids, one of the girl is found sniffing glues, cheap drugs in philipines.
3rd speaker: Why are they taking drugs, when the amount of money can be use to purchase rice?
Friend: In philipines, glues is cheaper than rice, they snif glues to lessen their pain of the suffering of hunger.
Speaker himself decided to bring them for a good meal. Initially they reject their offer, as they felt they are dirty, and people in macdonald restaurants will despise them. After several pursuades they went eventually. One of the boy ate half the burger, and wrap half of it in the wraper. The speaker thought they have small stomach and is full, but is not.
3rd speaker: Are you full?
Boy: No, I'm still very hungry.
3rd Speaker: Then why don't you eat?
Boy: I saving this for my mother at home, she's hungry also.
Just then the girl cried, she said that this is the first time stranger treat her food, she thought she will be raped after this. Think, certain part of the world is indeed scary, the interests of males, females is not being taken care on.
4rd speaker. He's similar to the 2nd speaker, just that he remind us of our resource, water.
I'm more or less guilty, though I wash clean plates, 2X cleaner, but also 2X other is using to wash. I will take note of it.
5th speaker. He told us never to give up, and fear= fake facts appearing real.
Obstacles= opportunity. We are given the opportunity to overcome obstacles, especially after being inspired by him!
Trying=hope--> priceless
What he has done for me, is not inspiring me like what the other speakers do. He enable me to find back my old self, that one that smile a lot, innocent boy. I have lost myself, when I indulge in the past 2 years stuff. All thanks to him, I'm able to smile freely once again!
Went back by bus. On the way back chat with Mr Paul Lim. From the materials from china, we compared several countries, and eventually into current affairs. His perspective is totally different from mine. I have to go JC (though my appeal fail this morning), to get the course I want during University, for poly do not offers. Combine science go JC just see how will I die bah.
I will never give up! :D
